Ioan Mircea Pascu minister of National Defence received Wednesday, May 26, 04 in the afternoon Mr. Marshall S. Billingslea, NATO Deputy General Secretary for Defence Investments in a three days long visit in our country.

During their meeting the two officials talked about different aspects of actuality on counter-terrorism and how to approach the research-development activities within the advanced technology especially the informatics. In this context it was stressed the necessity to identify how the institutes of research and the Romanian companies could contribute to the development of the future technical capabilities of the North Atlantic Alliance.

NATO Deputy General Secretary stressed the fact that the Alliance is mainly focused on developing its capabilities and this issue will be approached during the Istanbul Summit in June.

Ph.D. Eng. Gheorghe Matache, State Secretary and chief of Department for Armaments was also present to this meeting.

Mr. Marshall S. Billingslea also met and talked with General Mihail Popescu chief of the Romanian General Staff. The main debated issues were on the reform within the Romanian Armed Forces and the Romanian military participation to the international missions especially to counter-terrorism fight.
