George Maior, State Secretary and chief of Department for Euro-Atlantic Integration and Defence Policy opened Wednesday, June 16, 04 the international seminar “Defense and Security Sector Reform in the Black Sea Region) developed at Marriott Hotel in Bucharest.
In his speech, Mr. Maior stressed the importance of the reform of security in the Black Sea region, the impact of NATO and EU enlargement on the reform of the armed forces and the defence international cooperation. “The join to the Partnership for Peace of the Black Sea region represented a catalyzing issue in developing the reform of security and the recent enlargement of NATO is offering new opportunities for developing new enlarged policies” he also stated.
At the end State Secretary Maior remarked “the development of a framework of inter-instututional cooperation in the region will substantially contribute to the strengthening of security and stability in the Black Sea region”.

The Center for Democratic Control of the Armed Forces (DCAF) from Geneva gathers experts and decision makers from more then 30 countries from Central and Eastern Europe, Balkans, Caucasus and states from the Black Sea region representing their learnt lessons and the experience in the reform of the armed forces.
The aims of the seminar are circumscribed to the Romanian policy for promoting the regional cooperation in the Black Sea area, a region of a special strategic importance in the present context of NATO and EU enlargement.
