Chief of French General Staff ‘s Visit to Bucharest
The Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc, had a meeting with the chief of the French General Staff, General Pierre de Villiers, today, February 3. The French general makes an official visit in our country at the invitation of his Romanian counterpart.
The defence minister emphasized on this occasion the outstanding cooperation relations between Romania and France, mainly in the military field, based on old, traditional relations but also on the two countries’s shared status as NATO and EU member nations.
Minister Motoc reiterated the solidarity of the Romanian and French people in the context of the difficulties generated by the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and reassured the French official of our support in the efforts to counter international terrorism. At the same time, the Romanian minister emphasized the interest and expectations of our country from the NATO Summit in Warsaw, concerning the long term strategic adaptation of the Alliance.
Also, during the bilateral talks, the chief of the General Staff, General Nicolae Ciucã, spoke of the priorities of the Romanian Armed Forces in the near future, the developments in the security situation in the Black Sea region and the participation of the Romanian troops in theaters of operations.
Taken into discussion were also aspects concerning the two NATO structures rendered operational in Romania, namely MND-SE and NFIU, but they also spoke of ways to intensify bilateral cooperation, by identifying new fields of cooperation.
