Talks between the Romanian and Ukrainian Chiefs of Defence

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, had an office call with the Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, on Friday, September 8.

The telephone conversation concerned the situation generated by the increase of the Russian Federation’s attacks on the infrastructure of the Ukrainian Ports at the Danube. Also, the two military officials discussed the incident regarding the drone elements that dropped on Romanian territory.

General Daniel Petrescu conveyed that Romania firmly condemns the war of aggression waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine as well as the unjustified and illegal attacks conducted against the Ukrainian infrastructure and the civilian population. At the same time, he reiterated the multidimensional support that Romania would provide to Ukraine, as long as necessary.

In this context, the Chief of Defence Staff told his Ukrainian counterpart that he had ordered the augmentation of measures taken to strengthen the monitoring and security capabilities of the airspace at the Romanian borders.
