Defence Minister’s meeting with his Slovenian counterpart to Bucharest
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had a working meeting with the Minister of Defence of Slovenia, Marjan Sarec, on Wednesday, April 10, at the MoND headquarters.
The meeting was planned as part of the activities carried out to mark 20 years since Romania's accession to NATO.
During the talks, the two officials welcomed the anniversary of the two states’ accession to the North Atlantic Alliance in 2004 and discussed NATO’s role of in strengthening collective defence, by pointing out the security situation in the Black Sea region, in the context of the war of aggression led by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Security challenges specific to the Western Balkans region were also discussed.
"Romania's accession to NATO 20 years ago sent a clear message of undertaken responsibilities and a firm commitment to contribute to stability and peace-keeping. Today, NATO is a stronger and more united Alliance than ever. Slovenia is an ally we can rely on at any time," Minister Tîlvăr stated.
The two ministers also addressed practical aspects of bilateral defence cooperation, including the prospect of the participation of the Slovenian Armed Force with troops within the allied structures deployed on Romanian territory.
The Romanian Minister of Defence expressed his appreciation for the very good level of defence cooperation between the two states and congratulated his Slovenian counterpart for the activities he took part in, over March 27-28, in Ljubljana, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary since Slovenia's accession to NATO, by thanking for the invitation addressed.
At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed that they would continue the political-military dialogue on topics of common interest.
