Minister Tîlvăr:”Romania supports Georgia’s European aspirations and the importance of continued reforms.”
The Georgian Minister of Defence paid an official visit to Romania
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, received the visit of the Georgian Defence Minister, Irakli Chikovani, on Wednesday, May 8th.
During the talks, the two ministers approached aspects related to the global security situation in the context of the aggression war led by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the measures taken by Romania in order to ensure traffic security in the Black Sea, Georgia’s European Way and the status of the bilateral defence cooperation.
Also, the Romanian defence minister ensured his counterpart of Romania’s support for Georgia’s European aspirations, the continued reforms being paramount to become a EU member state.
„The European Union has a large set of available instruments that can be used to help Georgia. I highlighted the advantages of the Euro-Atlantic membership and conveyed that it was very important that the progresses that had been made so far be continued and enhanced “, minister Tîlvăr pointed out.
In his turn, the Georgian minister emphasized the importance of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM Georgia).
When referring to the North-Atlantic context, minister Tîlvăr reiterated the constant support provided to enhance political dialogue and practical cooperation Georgia, NATO offering a large variety of training options that can represent the necessary support to continuing reforms and achieving interoperability.
In the end, the two officials pointed out the importance of maintaining the political-military dialogue and continue the common efforts to enhance defence cooperation.
