Originally created as a cooperation platform among Southeast European countries aspiring to Euro-Atlantic integration, the South Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) Process has evolved into an important regional initiative that addresses real security challenges, promoting at the same time trust and cooperation in the region.
As the operational pillar of SEDM, SEEBRIG exemplifies this commitment by participating in peace support, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, and most notably by its deployment to Afghanistan alongside the Kabul Multinational Brigade. Today, all six SEEBRIG force-contributing nations are NATO member states.
Under the Romanian Chairmanship (2023-2025), the SEDM focuses on resilience, commitment and stability. Significant progress was made over the last year, such as the inclusion of the Republic of Moldova as a full member of the SEDM and the organization of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening SEEBRIG, regional cooperation and resilience.
