The Chief of Defence Staff of the Kingdom of Spain, on official visit to Romania

The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, met on Wednesday, December 18th, with his counterpart from the Kingdom of Spain, Admiral Teodoro López Calderón, who is on an official visit to Romania, until the end of the week.

The current security situation, the enhancement of military cooperation relations, the consolidation of multinational structures and the major joint training opportunities were the main points of discussion.

In the context of the strategic partnership between Romania and Spain, the cooperation between the two armed forces maintains an upward trend, both bilaterally and within allied format. "I thanked Admiral Teodoro López Calderón for the substantial presence of the Spanish soldiers in Romania and for the significant contribution made to strengthening the deterrence and defence posture in this part of the eastern flank. Security challenges lead us to increase defensive measures and training, a fact which further strengthens the relations between our countries’ armed forces, allied solidarity and interoperability", General Gheorghiță Vlad said at the end of the meeting.

The Spanish official's program includes visits to the 57th “Capitan Aviator Constantin Cantacuzino” Air Base in Mihail Kogălniceanu, the NATO HQ Multinational Corps Southeast in Sibiu and the Getica Joint National Training Center in Cincu.
