Defence Minister’s meeting with the Ambassador of Norway
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had a meeting with the Ambassador of Norway to Romania, Her Excellency Hilde Svartdal Lunde, on Wednesday, February 5th, at the MoND headquarters.
The two officials discussed the developments of the European security situation and the increase of hybrid actions on the entire Eastern Flank of NATO, reiterating the need for a coherent and overall approach in order to increase resilience and counter these types of threats.
Minister of National Defence emphasized the challenges and risks in the Black Sea region, pointing out the importance of ensuring stability in the area and the need for a continued support both for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
At the same time, the talks agenda also included aspects related to bilateral defence cooperation, especially in the technical-military field, and Minister Tîlvăr appreciated that it was essential to develop relations between the two states’ defence industries, including by enhancing collaboration within the projects funded by the European Union.
In this context, the officials welcomed the success of the ongoing F-16 Fighting Falcon Procurement Program from Norway, which ensures the increase of Romania's security by strengthening the defence capabilities of the national and NATO’s airspace.
Also, the Romanian official appreciated the fact that Norway was the first third country to sign an Administrative Agreement with the European Defence Agency in 2006, remaining the most involved country in the Agency's activities and projects. At the same time, the importance of signing a Security and Defence Partnership between the EU and Norway was also emphasized, which represents an important contribution to the security of the European and Norwegian citizens.
