On Thursday, February 13th, a team made up of specialists from the Ministry of National Defence, the Romanian Intelligence Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted investigations in two areas on the national territory, in the vicinity of the Romanian-Ukrainian border, where fragments resulting from the impact of Geran 1/2 type drones, used by the Russian Federation in the attacks executed on the Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube, were discovered. 

The first area where drone fragments were discovered was located near the border, approximately 5 km west of the town of Reni in Ukraine, less than 1,000 m from the left bank of the Danube.

The second impact zone on the national territory was also discovered in the vicinity of the border, at a point located 500 m from the river bank, at a distance of about 5 km south of the town of Reni, where the remains of a drone were also discovered. 

Following on-site investigations, it was established that both drones had explosive charges on board, which were destroyed upon impact with the ground. Both locations are outside the inhabited areas, the infrastructure elements on the national territory not being affected. The investigation team collected evidence from the two locations.

We remind you that, last night, the Russian Federation’s forces conducted, unjustifiably and in serious contradiction with the norms of international law, a new attack on certain Ukrainian civil and infrastructure facilities, near the border with Romania.

MoND forces will continue airspace monitoring and research missions in areas where risks may arise as a result of these situations. MoND informed and keeps the Allied structures informed in real time about the situations generated by the attacks, remaining in permanent contact with them.
