The Ministry of National Defence organized on Wednesday, March 5, at the Palace of the National Military Circle in Bucharest, the Conference of the MoND Gender Advisors and the launch of the "SHE FOR ROMANIA" Campaign.
The gender advisor position is found in all military units TO&Es in the country, the MoND thus supporting and promoting free and equal access to all hierarchical levels, for women and men, whether civilian or military personnel, subject to the fulfillment of performance and professionalism criteria.
MoND State Secretary, Eduard Bachide, who represented the Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, at the activity, thanked the participants for their dedication and the results obtained nationally and internationally and conveyed that "we want a stable world, with peace, equality and non-violence that involves the eradication of all forms of sexual and gender-based violence, the protection of women and girls in conflict areas, the provision of all conditions for a decent life in refugee camps and, last but not least, the promotion of women in leadership positions, in peace negotiation processes and in peacekeeping operations".
The Ministry of National Defence has taken over the leadership of the process of promoting and implementing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda at national level and acts as the National Focal Point in relation to national and international organizations activating in this field, under the coordination of Colonel Manuela-Elena Mihai, National Focal Point.
"Romania has taken important steps in the implementation of the agenda, and this is primarily due to the Gender Management Office staff operating at the level of the military institution. The development of the second national strategy for the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda shows our firm commitment to developing and attaching importance to this area," the State Secretary said.
Year 2025 is of particular importance from this perspective. Thus, it marks 25 years since the approval of Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and Security" of the United Nations Security Council, 10 years since the endorsement of Law no. 23/2015 declaring May 8 as the Day of Equal Opportunities between Women and Men, and 70 years since Romania's admission as a member of the United Nations.
To mark this triple anniversary, the "SHE FOR ROMANIA" Campaign was launched during the conference and aims at promoting female leadership and increasing women's participation in the decision-making process.
At the end of 2024, the female personnel represented 23 % of the entire MoND personnel, while female military personnel represented 13% of all MoND personnel, divided by categories – 22% officers, 17 % non-commissioned officers and 9 % enlisted military personnel.
