Defence Minister’s meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia
On Monday, March 10, the Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, received the official visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Romania, Her Excellency Marija Kapitanović, at the Ministry of National Defence headquarters.
During the talks, the officials reviewed relevant aspects of the security situation in the Black Sea region, in the context of the Russian Federation's war of aggression in Ukraine.
The Minister of National Defence emphasized the importance that our country attaches to the Western Balkans region, highlighting the fact that Romania has taken over command of EUFOR Althea mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina for year 2025- a consistent commitment to EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy. In addition to the largest troop contribution, Romania also participates in EUFOR Althea missions with a Romanian Air Force helicopter detachment Angel Tîlvăr said.
The presence of the Romanian military personnel within NATO KFOR in Kosovo was also highlighted, an essential mission in maintaining a safe and stable security environment.
"The stability of the Western Balkans region continues to remain a strategic priority for Romania, our country being consistently engaged in the operations conducted in this region. The security of the area is closely connected to that of the Black Sea region", Minister Angel Tîlvăr added.
The two officials also discussed the cooperation within regional initiatives, such as the South-Eastern Europe Defense Ministerial (SEDM) Process, whose chairmanship is held by Romania over 2023-2025.
In conclusion, the Minister of National Defence expressed his interest in developing the Romanian-Croatian relationship in the field of defense, and updating the legal framework for cooperation.
