Minister Angel Tîlvăr’s meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola
On Monday, April 28, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, as part of his official visit to Brussels.
During the talks, the Romanian official emphasized the European Parliament’s essential role in supporting a common strategic vision in the field of European Union defence and security, highlighting the importance of the coordinated action of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The Romanian official also appreciated the Parliament's solid commitment to strengthening the common foreign and security policy, as well as the constant support provided to Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and the states in the Western Balkans.
Minister of National Defence also emphasized the essential contribution of the European Parliament in developing the legislative and budgetary framework necessary for funding the European defence industry, through mechanisms such as the European Defence Industrial Program (EDIP) and the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) Initiative.
In this context, Minister Tîlvăr presented Romania's efforts within the Common Security and Defence Policy, through its active participation in all EU missions and operations, highlighting the exertion of command of EUFOR Althea Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and of the EUTM RCA Mission in the Central African Republic.
A major topic addressed was the strategic importance of the Black Sea region for the Euro-Atlantic and the European Union’s security, in the context of multiple threats, including hybrid threats, propaganda and disinformation.
