Defence Minister’s meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, in Brussels
On Wednesday, February 11th, Minister of National Defence, Radu Miruță, had a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Mykhailo Fedorov, as part of the Meeting of the NATO Ministers of Defence.
The talks focused on the security developments in the Black Sea region, the support provided to Ukraine in order to strengthen its defence capabilities, and on the coordinated efforts in the context of the illegal and unprovoked aggression of the Russian Federation.
Romania reaffirmed its commitment to support Ukraine through bilateral training programs and participation in international initiatives, including at European level, to capitalize on common opportunities in the field of defence industry and technological cooperation, such as SAFE and BraveTech EU.
The Ukrainian side appreciated Romania's donation of the PATRIOT system and the financial contribution to the NATO mechanism - Prioritised Ukraine's Requirements List (PURL), considered important for strengthening the Ukrainian armed forces’ resilience.
The meeting also addressed the prospects for medium and long-term support in multinational formats, increasing interoperability and strengthening the regional security architecture.
"Romania's support for Ukraine represents a direct investment in Europe’s and NATO’s security, an investment in our security. We will continue to actively contribute to joint defence and deterrence efforts, through training, participation in international missions and involvement in multinational initiatives," the Romanian Minister of Defence stated.
The meeting reconfirmed the excellent level of bilateral dialogue and the shared commitment to enhancing defence cooperation for the benefit of Euro-Atlantic stability and regional security.
