On Friday, February 13th, Minister of National Defence, Radu Miruță, had a meeting with the Minister of Defence of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Yuriko Backes, as part of the Munich Security Conference.
The dialogue, which has become an annual tradition within the international conference, aimed to enhance the Romanian-Luxembourgish defence cooperation, both within allied context and from the perspective of the joint contributions to European Union initiatives regarding the consolidation of defence industry.
The two officials discussed recent developments in the security environment, with focus on the regional implications of the war in Ukraine and the strategic role of the Black Sea region in the Euro-Atlantic security architecture. The strategic relevance of the transatlantic relationship was also emphasized.
Minister Miruță commended the contribution of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to strengthening the allied deterrence and defence posture, highlighting its participation with forces in the NATO Battle Group Romania deployed to Cincu, as well as its involvement in other Allied projects run in Romania.
The meeting reconfirmed the favourable evolution of the Romanian-Luxembourgish relationship and the shared vision regarding the need for a closer European cooperation, capable of generating credible capabilities, stimulating innovation and strengthening the continent's security, in full compliance with the Euro-Atlantic commitments.
