On the morning of February 27, the Russian Federation launched new airstrikes on the Ukrainian ports on the Danube. The MoND radar systems detected, in the Ukrainian airspace, a drone moving towards the north of Tulcea County and a new RO-alert message was issued for the population in the area at 08:45 a.m.

According to air policing procedures, two F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft from Feteşti Air Base were scrambled at 09.04 to monitor the airspace.

A few minutes later, the aircraft confirmed radar contact with the target 9 km from Chilia Veche, on the Ukrainian territory, and at 09.13 the drone was shot down by the Ukrainian armed forces' air defence systems, 100 meters from the locality.

Being very close to the border, specialized teams are prepared to initiate a search operation for possible debris of the aircraft that fell on the national territory.

The air alert ceased at 10:12 am.

The Ministry of National Defence is constantly monitoring the situation, in close cooperation with the NATO allies.
