Counter-UAS Exercise at Capu Midia Range
The Ministry of National Defence and NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), together with defense industry companies from Romania and abroad, are organizing the Eastern Phoenix 2026 (EAPH 26) exercise at the Capu Midia Training Range, from April 14–24. The activity is focused on innovation and experimentation of capabilities to counter threats generated by unmanned aerial systems (UAS/C-UAS).
Approximately 500 military personnel and specialists from Romania and NATO member states, along with UAS and C-UAS capabilities will take part in the exercise. Participants include representatives from NATO commands and agencies, Romanian and foreign defense companies, as well as the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC).
EAPH 26 is the first event of its kind under the Layered Counter-UAS Initiative (LCI-X), one of ACT’s key programs aimed at strengthening NATO’s ability to counter threats through innovation, collaboration, and experimentation.
Through initiatives like this, the Romanian Armed Forces and ACT reaffirm their ongoing commitment to identifying optimal solutions for countering drone threats by leveraging innovation and operational experimentation, as well as strengthening cooperation with the defense industry in testing, evaluating, and integrating relevant technologies adapted to current challenges.
Media representatives will have access to part of the activities planned for the final phase of the exercise, on a date to be communicated subsequently. The Press Office will provide further details regarding the accreditation procedure for journalists, as well as the detailed schedule of activities.
