On Saturday, September 12th, the Air Operations Centers of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova informed the Romanian Ministry of National Defence that a drone had crossed the airspace of both states, heading toward the northeastern region of Romania.
Two Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft scrambled from 86th Borcea Air Base to monitor the situation.
The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations regarding the implementation of population alert measures in Botoșani County, and a RO-Alert message was issued at 4:20 PM.
During the same timeframe, the presence of a drone over the locality of Știubieni, Botoșani County, was reported via the 112 Emergency Service.
Following the reconnaissance operations conducted by Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) forces, a crashed flying object was identified in a cornfield near the locality of Botoșenița Mare, Suceava County. The impact caused a small-scale fire and formed a crater approximately 1 meter in diameter and 30 centimeters deep. No casualties were reported.
A pyrotechnic team from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) is deploying to the site to assess the situation.
