The XXIXth International Congress of Military History on" War, Armed Forces and Media since Gutenberg till the Present Time" was developed between August 10 and 15, 03 in Bucharest at the National Military Club Palace. The Congress was organized by the Institute fore Defense Policy Studies and Military History and the Romanian Commission of Military History under the aegis of the International Commission of Military History.
189 representatives of national commissions of military history from 32 countries: Albania, Great Britain, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Swiss, Finland, Russian Federation, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Maroc, Republic of Moldavia, Norway, Holland, Poland, Republic of south Africa, Slovakia, Spain, United States of America, Sweden, Turkey and Hungary participated to this scientific activity. Romania- the host country- was represented by more then 100 invites political and military personalities, historians, archivists and journalists.
During the works there were presented 58 papers on different topics on the military phenomenon, the paradigm of war and the mass media universe. During the five days as long as this international reunion lasted there were debates and lectures within the two sections, round tables, and a gala of Romanian and foreign documentary movies. The guests participated to a demonstrative exercise presented by a mountain troops sub-unit at Cheile Rasnoavei and visited important turistical objectives. A special interest was the round table on "War and Media. A Study of Case of the Campaign in Iraq". Participants also were the Romanian war correspondents from radio and television. The exhibitions of Romanian and foreign military history books were largely open during this Congress.
The working meetings of the executive board of the International Commission of Military History, the International Committees of Archives and Bibliography were organized in the first day of the Congress and at the end there was organized a plenary official administrative meeting of the International Commission of Military History.
The 29th International Congress of Military History, the second ample activity organized in Romania after the International Congress of Historical Sciences in 1980, represented a real success, the fact being stressed by the foreign participants. This scientific reunion proved once more the deep anchor of the army in the scientific and cultural domestic and international life opening new perspectives of bilateral projects between Romanian and foreign historians.
