Radu-Dinel MIRUȚĂ
MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENCE
Radu-Dinel Miruță has served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence since December 2025. His appointment builds on a multifaceted professional background that combines public service, parliamentary activity, and high-level technical expertise in telecommunications, IP networks, and cyber-related domains.
Prior to taking office at the Ministry of National Defence, he served as Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (June–December 2025), contributing to modernization and digital transformation policies, as well as measures aimed at increasing economic competitiveness. Since December 2020, he has been a Member of the Romanian Parliament, serving on the Committee for Communications and Information Technology and the Economic Affairs Committee. Before joining the Government, he also chaired the Communications and IT Committee, supporting initiatives related to digital infrastructure, communications security, and improved institutional capacity in technology-driven public policies.
Alongside his public service profile, Radu-Dinel Miruță has built a long-standing technical career, with more than a decade of experience in telecommunications and advanced network engineering. He held senior technical and consulting roles in international environments, including positions with Ericsson, Nokia, Tech Mahindra, and Cisco, contributing to multi-country projects and complex, mission-critical IP network deployments. His expertise includes the design, implementation, and optimization of network architectures and services using technologies such as MPLS Traffic Engineering, BGP/MP-BGP, OSPF, LDP, and service integration for high-reliability communications. Between 2018 and 2020, as a Consulting Engineer for Advanced IP Communications Services at Cisco, he supported international projects, including the new NATO IP infrastructure, as well as large enterprise and institutional clients.
His professional experience also includes network security and integrated communications solutions, developed early on through a role as Network and Security Engineer in the banking sector, where he worked on VoIP design and deployment, Cisco equipment configuration, and security solution implementation. He also gained extensive experience in Romania’s telecom sector, including work with Cosmote Romania and an internship program with Orange Romania.
Academically, Radu-Dinel Miruță holds a PhD from the Politehnica University of Bucharest (2009–2013), focused on content-based processing networks. He has also contributed to higher education as a part-time teaching assistant at the Politehnica University of Bucharest, delivering master-level laboratory activities. He is the author and co-author of scientific publications in the field of networking and communications and has received international Best Paper awards (CTRQ 2012 – Chamonix, France; ICNS 2013 – Lisbon, Portugal). He participated in research projects, including ALICANTE (FP7), contributing to deliverables and advanced routing, resource management, and “Future Internet” architecture work.
He holds top-tier professional certifications, including Cisco CCIE (2020) and Cisco CCNP (2014–2017), and has completed specialized training in IPv6, BGP, MPLS Traffic Engineering, and network management tools.
He is fluent in English and has an intermediate level of French.
He is married and has two children.
