Romanian-Hungarian Search and Rescue Exercise

Four IAR 330 MEDEVAC and TRANSPORT type helicopters from the 71st Campia Turzii Air Base and four MI 8-17 and MI 24 airplanes of the Hungarian Air Force are participating in “CROSS LANDING 2008” real bilateral search and rescue exercise.
The exercise is developed not only in Romania in Timisoara-Oradea-Satu Mare (October 27-30) but in Hungary, too, in Nyiregyhaza-Debrecen-Bekescsaba (November 3-6).
The aim of this activity is to improve the interoperability between the helicopter crews and their assistance personnel of the Romanian and Hungarian Air Forces to provide mutual search and rescue services for the military airplanes, crews and passengers in the air space close to the Romanian-Hungarian border and to practice the operational proceedings in accordance with the international agreements and protocols in force. The exercise, at its third edition, is developed based on the Memorandum of Agreement between the Ministries of Defence from Romania and Hungary.
