Peace Tree Relay Race
The injured military personnel of Invictus Romania Cycling Team participate together with other injured soldiers from Great Britain, Slovakia, Ukraine and Hungary over 17 - 20 September, in the “Peace Tree Relay Race” event, organized on the occasion of the International Day of Peace (21 September).
The cycling event consists in the completion of an itinerary which starts from Zvolen Locality (Slovakia), goes through Budapest (Hungary), Arad, Sibiu and reaches Bucharest where, “The Peace Tree” will be symbolically planted in Carol I Park, on 21st September.
The cycling fans from all over the country are invited to join the platoon once it enters the country and to pedal next to the injured soldiers in the “Peace Tree Relay Race”, on the following segments:
- 19 September, Arad segment– Sibiu (277 km), estimated starting time: 06.00: 191st “Colonel Radu Golescu” Infantry Battalion - Pãuliș (Monument) - Lipova - Bârzava - Sãvârșin (Royal Palace) - Zam- Ilia – Deva – Simeria - Orãștie - Sebeș - Miercurea Sibiului – Cristian – Sibiu (Fortress Wall) – estimated arrival time: 18.00;
- 20 September, Sibiu segment – Bucharest (267 km), estimated starting time: 06:00: “Nicolae Bãlcescu” Land Forces Academy - Tãlmaciu – Câinenii Mici - Țuțulești – Sãlãtrucu - Șuici – Valea Danului – Curtea de Argeș - Bascov - Gãiești – Calea Victoriei – Parcul Carol – estimated arrival time: 18.00.
Being a friendship race, the participants will help each other in order to reach the goal of bringing the spirit of the “Peace Tree” from Zvolen to Bucharest. The cyclists will pedal only during daytime, for four days in a row, with over 25 kilometers per hour, the itinerary to be completed measuring approximately 1,000 kilometers.

“The Peace Tree” is an international project which focuses on promotion of friendship and understanding among nations, with a view of bringing together people from all over the world. Since its initiation in 2018, it has been successfully implemented 15 countries from four continents.
“Peace Tree” Initiative was established 100 years after the end of World War I and is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. “Peace Tree” officially represents the Slovak Republic under “Good idea Slovakia” brand name.
The project commemorates not only the soldiers’ sacrifice but also the victims of the natural and ecologic disasters. This activity represents an opportunity to promote peace at global level through sports and reiterates our injured soldiers’ peace-keeping mission which continues even after having gone through the most difficult time of their lives.
“Peace Tree Relay Race” is an event organized by the Romanian Armed Forces, Slovak Armed Forces, Hungarian Armed Forces and the non-governmental Slovak Association “Servare et Manere”.
