Meeting between the MoND leadership and the delegation headed by the Commander of the United States Special Operations Command
On Saturday, 17 December, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvãr, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, met, at the MoND headquarters, with General Bryan P. Fenton, Commander of the United States Special Operations Command– US SOCOM, who was paying an official visit to Romania.
The activity was attended by the Commander of the Special Operations Command Europe - SOCEUR, Major General Steven G. Edwards, and the Romanian Armed Forces’ Commander of the Special Operations Forces Command, Major General Dacian-Tiberiu Șerban.
During the meeting, the officials approached the regional security situation, the latest developments in the field of the consolidation of the Allied defensive capacity on NATO’s Eastern flank, the US forces’ posture in our country and the cooperation between the Romanian and American special operations forces.
Minister Tîlvãr emphasized the fact that the Special Operations Forces’ structures are an essential capability of the Romanian Armed Forces, with a rapid reaction level, operating at strategic level. “We monitor the continuous increase of our own action capacity and the interoperability of the SOF structures with the American and Allied countries’ armed forces ones, through the current joint training events conducted with the US special operations forces”, defence minister stated.
The solid cooperation relations with the US forces have been conducted for over two decades, both in the field of joint training and the execution of the missions in the theaters of operations, the Chief of Defence Staff stated. “We thanked General Bryan P. Fenton for the constant support provided by the United States Special Operations Command in this field of activity. The American partner’s expertise has contributed to the transformation and recognition of the Romanian special operations forces’ structures at international level, the forces being able to accomplish complex operative tasks and achieve ambitious training goals”, General Daniel Petrescu mentioned.
