The MoND Press Office makes the following specifications with respect to the security situation from the Black Sea region, in the context of the recent attacks conducted by the Russian Federation’s armed forces against civilian targets and certain Ukrainian critical infrastructure elements located in the proximity of the Romanian borders:

The Ministry of National Defence firmly condemns the war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the unjustified and illegal attacks targeting the civilian population and elements of the Ukrainian critical infrastructure, which break all international rules as well as moral and humanitarian norms.

Regarding the security situation in the proximity of the Romanian borders, according to the assessments made by the MoND competent bodies, there are no potential direct military threats against our national territory or Romania’s territorial waters.

The Romanian Armed Forces continue to implement the enhanced vigilance measures in the ground, maritime and air space, as well as the measures designated to consolidate the defence and deterrence posture on the eastern flank, in accordance with the national and Allied plans.

The Ministry of National Defence, alongside the similar structures from the Allied, will continue consolidating the common defence on the entire eastern flank and deterring any aggression against the Allied territory. The Romanian Armed Force will also hold firm on implementing all necessary measures in order to ensure the freedom and safety of navigation from their area of responsibility in the Black Sea.
