The UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas paid a visit to the MoND

State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Simona Cojocaru, had a meeting on Friday, February 9, with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas, Miroslav Jenèa.

The main topics of discussion approached were the security situation in the Black Sea region and the Western Balkans.

In the opening of the talks, the Romanian dignitary emphasized that, despite the security challenges with an increasingly broad spectrum in the region, Romania remains a pillar of stability and joins the efforts of international organizations in finding appropriate answers to the new regional context.

He also noticed that, although bilateral and regional formats play an important role in addressing current security threats, multilateral dialogue formats, including within the UN, convey increased legitimacy in this regard.

State Secretary Cojocaru emphasized Romania's contribution to the efforts to secure maritime routes in the Black Sea in response to the new challenges posed to the civilian vessels caused by the existence of sea mines.

The two officials also discussed the contribution of the Ministry of National Defence to the UN peace-keeping missions.

At the end of the talks, the officials pointed out the need to increase the political efforts of the international community in order to identify the best solutions for the prevention and management of security crises.
