Romanian Air Force F-16 Aircraft equipped with state-of-the-art Sidewinder Missiles
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvãr, welcomed the recent announcement by which the United States of America approves the sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Missiles to Romania, estimated at approximately 70 million US dollars. The acquisition will provide the Romanian Air Force Multirole F-16 Fighting Falcon Aircraft with the most advanced version of the AIM-9X Sidewinder – Block II Missile that is currently operated by the US Army.
"The Romanian Air Force's access to state-of-the-art air-to-air capabilities significantly contributes to increasing the safety of national and allied airspace and ensures a high degree of interoperability with similar structures of the US Army," Angel Tîlvãr stated.
The procurement program also includes the logistics support package, namely the spare FPA seekers, training missiles, personnel’s training, technical assistance and documentation as well as the transportation services in order to ensure a complete capability for the Romanian Air Force.
"The United States remains firmly committed to strengthening the defence posture and deterring any aggression in the Black Sea area. The Romanian Armed Forces will continue to act in order to strengthen the defence and security dimension of the strategic partnership", Angel Tîlvãr also pointed out.
