“Women, peace and security” Anniversary Conference
On May 8th, the Ministry of National Defence, through the Department for the Liaison with the Parliament and Personnel Welfare, organized the Anniversary Conference "Women, Peace and Security", at the Palace of Parliament.
The conference has a triple significance - the 25th anniversary of the approval of Resolution no. 1325 on Women, Peace and Security by the UN Security Council, the 10th anniversary since the endorsement of Law no. 23/2015 declaring May 8th as Gender Equality Day, simultaneously with the marking of the 70th anniversary of Romania's admission as a member of the United Nations.
The anniversary event was attended by Nicoleta Pauliuc, Chairman of the Committee for Defence, Public Order and National Security of the Romanian Senate, State Secretary for the Liaison with the Parliament and Personnel Welfare, Eduard Bachide, representatives of the academia and non-governmental organizations, chiefs of diplomatic missions accredited to Romania, of governmental institutions in Romania and of the Ministry of National Defence.
The advisor to the Minister of National Defence, Major General Gabriel Nicușor Anghel, read the message of the Defence Minister’s of National.
"I am convinced that the recently launched "SHE FOR ROMANIA" campaign, aimed at promoting female leadership and increasing women's participation in the decision-making process, has all the prerequisites to be a success. The Ministry of National Defence supports and promotes free and equal access to all hierarchical levels, regardless of gender, for both civilian and military personnel, meeting the criteria of performance and professionalism", Minister Angel Tîlvăr said.
The Chief of the Gender Issues Management Office of the Ministry of National Defence and National Focal Point in the field of "Women, Peace and Security", Colonel Manuela Mihai, stated, during the debates, that "we are proud that we managed to bring to the same debate table both the academic and business environments together with the security, public order and national security sector. For us, this event represents a step forward that strengthens our role - women’s role - in society and especially in the society’s leadership positions."

At the end of 2024, female personnel in the Ministry of Defence represented 23 percent, and female military personnel represented 13% of all personnel, divided by categories - 22 percent officers, 17 percent non-commissioned officers, and 9 percent enlisted military personnel.
