Angel Tîlvăr: “Romania stays committed to maintaining stability and security in the region.”
A new military mobility corridor connecting Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, signed today, October 17th, as part of the NATO Defence Ministers Meeting in Brussels, a letter of intent on the establishment of a military mobility corridor between Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. This initiative aims to improve connectivity and rapid response capability in the region, providing essential support to NATO's efforts to ensure security in the Black Sea area.
In the context of an increasingly complex global security situation, the urgent need to simplify and harmonize the logistic processes required to effectively deploy armed forces in the region has been identified.
The Letter of Intent signed today aims at establishing a coordinated network of main supply routes between the three countries, to ensure the rapid and safe transport of troops, equipment and military material.
“Military mobility is crucial to ensure both the ceaceless conduct of our missions and the stability and security in the region. The cooperation between Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey demonstrates our commitment to support collective defence and contribute to global security," Minister Angel Tîlvăr said.
NATO has been strengthening its deterrence and rapid response capability to effectively face all kinds of security threats. By improving the logistics infrastructure, harmonizing the legislative framework, optimizing mobility corridors and ensuring a resilient supply chain, the ability to deploy and support forces deployed in the field is consolidated. These measures are essential to maintain the security of allied territory, as well as to react promptly and in a coordinated manner to the emerging challenges in the region. Military mobility is an important enabler of the interconnectivity of regional transport infrastructure networks.
"Military mobility is a flagship project of NATO-EU cooperation and an essential element for a credible deterrence and defence posture in the Black Sea Region", Minister Tîlvăr stated.
