Deputy Minister of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina paid a visit to the MoND
State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Simona Cojocaru, met with the Deputy Minister of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slaven Galić on Tuesday, October 22nd, at the MoND headquarters.
During the activity, the two officials addressed topics of common interest regarding the security situation in the Black Sea region and the Western Balkans, in the context of the Russian Federation's war of aggression in Ukraine, as well as ways to increase bilateral defence cooperation. At the same time, State Secretary Simona Cojocaru reaffirmed Romania's firm support for the continuation of the Euro-Atlantic accession path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Romanian official reiterated the importance of the signing, in June, this year, in Bucharest, of the Agreement between the Ministry of National Defence of Romania and the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina on defence cooperation and informed that the national procedures for the approval of the Bilateral Agreement were completed at the beginning of October.
Also, Simona Cojocaru emphasized our country’s significant contribution and role within EUFOR ALTHEA Operation and NATO KFOR Operation, at operational level.
Starting January 2025, Romania will take over command of EUFOR ALTHEA Operation after Brigadier General Ovidiu Lungu having held the Chief of Staff position within the same mission, throughout May 2023-May 2024.
"The stability of the Western Balkans region remains a strategic priority not only for Romania, but also for NATO and the EU. Our country contributes actively and at multiple levels to the preservation of a climate of peace and security in this region," the state secretary emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to maintain a continuous dialogue on topics of common interest in order to identify new practical cooperation opportunities in the field of defence.
