Minister Angel Tîlvăr: “The Republic of Moldova became a full-fledged member of SEDM during Romania’s Chairmanship mandate”.
Bilateral meeting between the Minister of National Defence with his counterpart from the Republic of Moldova
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had a bilateral meeting on Wednesday, November 6th, with his counterpart from the Republic of Moldova, Anatolie Nosatîi, as part of the South-Eastern Europe Ministerial (SEDM) Meeting held in Tirana, in the Republic of Albania.
The talks between the two ministers focused on the recent developments in the security situation in the Black Sea region and the European accession path of the Republic of Moldova. Minister Tîlvăr emphasized the importance of the firm support for the Republic of Moldova in the context of security challenges and destabilization attempts, as part of the Russian Federation’s hybrid actions.
"I congratulated the partners in Chisinau for the re-election of Maia Sandu as President of the Republic of Moldova and for the results of the referendum, which demonstrated the irreversible commitment to European integration. We will continue the political-military dialogue to respond to Chisinau's support needs for the country's European accession path", the Minister of National Defence stated.
Angel Tîlvăr emphasized that the Republic of Moldova was the first country to sign a Partnership in the field of security and defence with the European Union, on May 21st, 2024. This partnership, together with the bilateral initiatives and the financial support offered through the European Peace Facility, plays a crucial role in the modernization and consolidation of the Republic of Moldova’s armed forces.
The Romanian minister reiterated the importance of the comprehensive support provided by the European Union for the security, stability and resilience of the Republic of Moldova.
Minister Tîlvăr also welcomed the participation of the Republic of Moldova in the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministers Meeting, for the first time as a full member, after the formal accession in Ankara, in 2023. This participation represents an important step in the country’s integration into the regional security cooperation structures.
