Defence Minister’s meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Austria, at the MoND headquarters

On Wednesday, January 22nd, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, received, at the MoND headquarters, the presentation visit of the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Austria to Romania, H.S. Ulla Krauss-Nussbaumer.

At the beginning of the talks, the Minister of National Defence congratulated the new ambassador on her appointment and expressed the belief that the collaborative relationship between Romania and Austria in the field of defence would continue on the upward trend characterizing the last period, given the historical ties and similar strategic perspectives. 

Minister Tîlvăr reviewed a number of relevant aspects, with a major impact on the security in the Black Sea region, in the context of the Russian Federation's war of aggression in Ukraine. 

He also appreciated the cooperation between the Romanian and Austrian soldiers within the European Union's operational commitments to the Western Balkans, referring to Romania's significant participation in EUFOR ALTHEA Operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina - whose command was taken over by our country on January 21st, as well as in the NATO-led Kosovo Force Mission (KFOR). Also, Angel Tîlvăr emphasized the importance of the support offered by Austria in rendering the force deployment process on Romanian territory more efficient.

In the end, the Minister of National Defence recalled the signing of the Implementation Agreement between the Ministry of National Defence of Romania and the Federal Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Austria on defence cooperation, in August 2024, a document that will offer the possibility of identifying concrete projects and areas that can contribute to the enhancement of cooperative relations between the two states, including in the field of the defence industry.
