Minister Angel Tîlvăr’s meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had a bilateral meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov, on Saturday, February 15th, as part of the Munich Security Conference.
During the talks, Minister Tîlvăr reaffirmed Romania's constant commitment to Ukraine, emphasizing our country’s active role in strengthening Kiev's defence capabilities. The Romanian official emphasized, in this context, the importance of the European F-16 Training Center in Fetești, where Ukrainian pilots can also train.
Minister Rustem Umerov expressed Ukraine's gratitude to the support provided by Romania, emphasizing in particular the importance of the decision to donate a Patriot system to strengthen Ukraine's air defence. The official from Kiev mentioned that these efforts were essential not only for Ukraine’s defence capacity, but also for the security of the entire region.
The two ministers also discussed the impact of the war of aggression that the Russian Federation is waging against Ukraine on regional stability, with a particular focus on the security of the Black Sea region, almost three years after the outbreak of this conflict.
In this context, our country's commitment to supporting Ukraine in its efforts to defend itself against the military aggression launched by the Russian Federation, within the multinational initiatives of which Romania is a part, was reiterated, considering the direct connection between Ukraine's security and that of Europe.
"Romania will remain a steady partner of Ukraine, continuing to support the consolidation of the neighboring country’s defence capabilities, thus contributing to strengthening the security of the Black Sea region. The stability of this area is crucial for the entire Europe", Minister Tîlvăr stated.
Finally, the two ministers discussed bilateral cooperation opportunities in areas of common interest.
