Defence Minister’s meeting with representatives of the German Company Rheinmetall AG
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had a meeting with Armin Papperger, the CEO of the German Company Rheinmetall AG, on February 15th, as part of the Munich Security Conference.
The talks mainly focused on the prospects of enhancing the industrial cooperation between the German Company and the profile industry in Romania, especially by capitalizing on the opportunities offered by the procurement programs planned by the Romanian Armed Forces, which can significantly contribute to the development of the national defence industry.
"Cooperation with companies of the level of Rheinmetall, an important player in the global market of combat equipment, can be a successful example for Romania. All the Romanian Armed Forces’ procurement programs involving state-of-the-art military equipment have as basic principle the capitalization in all possible dimensions of industrial collaboration opportunities with national economic agents. The transfer of state-of-the-art technology and the integration of a large part of the manufactured contracted equipment into the domestic industrial facilities essentially contribute to strengthening Romania’s security and resilience in this complicated geopolitical context that manifests itself in our region", the Minister of Defence stated.
An important topic of discussions was the building of a powder factory in Romania, through a partnership between Romarm and Rheinmetall. This project benefits from a 47 million Euro funding granted by the European Commission, through the ASAP program. The investment will increase ammunition production capacity, supporting both national security and, at the same time, strengthening the European defence industry.
"The success of this initiative will demonstrate our commitment to increasing domestic production and enhancing European industrial capabilities. Romania has the chance to become an important player in ensuring the ammunition supply at European level", said Minister Tîlvăr.
The representatives of the two parties appreciated the constructive dialogue and expressed their desire to enhance collaboration through new strategic projects in the field of defence.
