Defence Minister’s meeting with his Albanian and Bulgarian counterparts, as part of the Munich Security Conference
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, met with his counterparts from Albania, Pirro Vengu, and Bulgaria, Atanas Zaprianov, as part of the Munich Security Conference (February 14-16). The official talks aimed at enhancing regional defence cooperation and military mobility.
One of the essential topics addressed during the talks was the VIII Pan-European Military Mobility Corridor, a strategic project in which Romania participates alongside Albania, Bulgaria, Italy and North Macedonia. Minister Tîlvăr reaffirmed Romania's commitment to facilitating the rapid transit of forces and military equipment in South-Eastern Europe, stressing the importance of reducing bureaucratic barriers and harmonizing critical infrastructure.
Angel Tîlvăr emphasized the strategic importance that Romania attaches to the development of military mobility infrastructure, our country actively participating in rendering operational several European corridors essential for the rapid transport of forces in peacetime, but also in crisis or conflict situations. In addition to Corridor VIII, our country joined two other similar initiatives - together with Bulgaria and Greece, respectively with Turkey and Bulgaria. These initiatives contribute to increasing NATO's rapid reaction capacity and strengthening collective security in Europe.
"Romania firmly supports the continued joint efforts to improve military mobility. The common measures we are taking to render simplified cross-border procedures operational, which ensure the speed and efficiency of the movement of troops and equipment of the allied forces where they are needed, represent an essential element for strengthening regional security and NATO's reaction capacity, an essential factor in deterring any aggression against the Allied common territory", the Romanian Minister of Defence stated.
During the meeting, the officials also discussed the importance of strengthening NATO's deterrence and defence posture in the Black Sea region. Minister Angel Tîlvăr thanked his counterparts for their contribution to the multinational NATO structures deployed on Romanian territory, emphasizing that this cooperation demonstrates the Alliance’s solidarity and unity.
Another central point of the discussions was the upcoming NATO Summit in The Hague, scheduled for this summer.
