Drone strike in Ukraine, in the vicinity of the border with Romania
On the night of Sunday, February 16, to Monday, February 17, the Russian Federation’s forces conducted a new series of attacks with unmanned aerial vehicles on certain civilian and port infrastructure targets in Ukraine, in the vicinity of the river border with Romania, in the town of Reni.
The radar monitoring and surveillance systems of the Ministry of National Defence signaled and monitored aerial targets that evolved in the Ukrainian airspace, in the vicinity of Tulcea and Galati Counties. Therefore, the National Military Command Center (core) notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, with regard to the establishment of measures to alert the population in the border area of the two counties, RO-Alert messages being sent at 22.40. The air alert in the targeted areas ceased at 00:05.
The Ministry of National Defence radar systems did not indicate, at any time, any unauthorized penetration of the monitored targets into the national airspace.
The MoND forces will conduct today, according to the standard procedures in force, research in areas where risks may arise as a result of these situations and will continue airspace surveillance missions. Also, the Allied structures are informed in real time about the situations generated by the attacks.
The Ministry of National Defence firmly condemns these attacks conducted by the Russian Federation against certain facilities and elements of the Ukrainian civil infrastructure, which are unjustified and severely breaching the norms of international law.
