Bilateral meeting between Minister Angel Tîlvăr and his Polish counterpart
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had an official meeting on Wednesday, April 2, with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The meeting took place as part of the Informal Meeting of EU Defence Ministers hosted by Poland, as the state holding the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The talks between the two dignitaries focused on the main security developments on NATO's Eastern Flank, with the Romanian minister drawing attention to the challenges specific to the Black Sea region.
"Given the current dynamics of the security situation in the Black Sea region, including the intensification of hybrid actions conducted by the Russian Federation, it is essential to enhance cooperation among the states on the Eastern Flank, in view of the preparation of the NATO Summit in The Hague, in June," the Romanian minister stated.
The defence ministers also reiterated their common commitments to the implementation of NATO decisions, especially in the field of strengthening the deterrence and defence posture,
Forward Defence on the Eastern Flank, and cooperation within European defence initiatives.
At the same time, the two officials emphasized the importance of practical cooperation between the two states’ armed forces, including within the allied missions intended to strengthen the defence and deterrence posture on the Eastern Flank. In this context, the officials mentioned the deployment, throughout April-July 2025, of the "Carpathian Vipers" Romanian Detachment to Lithuania, consisting of approximately 100 military personnel and four F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, which is to conduct missions alongside the Polish Air Force, as part of the NATO enhanced Air Policing Mission.
The two officials also discussed the excellent cooperation between Romania and Poland within the B9 Initiative. At the same time, the bilateral collaboration opportunities in the field of military equipment production was highlighted, including in the context of recent initiatives launched by the European Union.
During the meeting, the excellent level of Romanian-Polish relations was appreciated, reflected in the numerous joint projects and activities, as well as in the consistent support offered to Ukraine.
