The Chief of Defence Staff, at NATO Military Committee and EU Military Committee Meetings
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, is participating in the NATO Military Committee and the European Union Military Committee Meetings, in the Chiefs of Defence formats, which will take place on May 14-15, in Brussels.
The meetings’ agenda includes topics of strategic interest, with an emphasis on cooperation and the streamlining of joint efforts and unitary responses to security challenges.
As part of the meetings, the Romanian Chief of Defence will have several office calls with his NATO and EU counterparts and officials.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization Military Committee is the highest military authority of NATO. In the course of a year, meetings at the level of Chiefs of Defence are usually held twice at NATO Headquarters in Brussels and once in one of the Alliance’s member countries. The Military Committee may also meet in different formats, such as within the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council or for other more specific situations.
The European Union Military Committee (EUMC), the forum responsible for the Common Security and Defence Policy, is made up of the member states’ chiefs of defence, who, after harmonizing national positions, propose courses of action to provide for the European security.
