Romania’s participation in the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025
State Secretary and Chief of the Department for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Sorin-Dan Moldovan, headed the Ministry of National Defence delegation to the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025, held in Berlin, in the Federal Republic of Germany, between May 13 and 14.
The event is part of a series of meetings initiated in 2015, aimed at promoting and enhancing the effectiveness and relevance of UN peacekeeping operations. This year's edition has a special significance, marking 80 years since the establishment of the United Nations (24 October 1945) and a decade since the organization of the first summit of leaders in the field of peacekeeping missions.
The ministerial meeting was a high-level political forum dedicated to discussing the future of peacekeeping operations and reaffirming the commitments of member states to these efforts.
During his speech, State Secretary Sorin-Dan Moldovan reiterated Romania's firm support for UN peacekeeping activities, emphasizing the national contributions introduced since 2015 into the UN Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System (UN PCRS).
At the same time, the Romanian official highlighted the national efforts in implementing the "Women, Peace and Security" agenda, through which Romania achieved the UN objective regarding the participation of a minimum of 15% of female personnel in peacekeeping missions. In this context, the officials emphasized the continued implementation of the National Strategy and the National Action Plan associated with the UN Security Council Resolution no. 1325/2000./p>
The State Secretary also stressed the importance of continuing concerted efforts of the UN and member states to effectively protect civilians, vulnerable communities and peacekeeping personnel.
In conclusion, the Romanian official reiterated the need to enhance UN’s cooperation with regional security organizations and other relevant parties, including strengthening the partnership with the European Union. He also expressed our country's commitment to supporting the continued UN operational efforts, especially on the African continent.
