SABER GUARDIAN 25 Multinational Exercise
Approximately 5,000 troops from four countries — Italy, the Republic of Moldova, Romania and the United States of America — are participating, from June 9 to 24, in Saber Guardian 25 Multinational Exercise (SG25), led by the United States Army Europe (USAREUR) and the "General Ioan Emanoil Florescu" Joint Forces Command.
The activities are conducted in several training areas in Romania, including Frecăței and Babadag (Tulcea County), Suraia (Vrancea) and Cincu (Brașov). The main goal of SG25 is to increase cohesion, unity and solidarity between allied and partner states, by demonstrating the ability to react quickly and deploy forces all over Europe, in a short time.
SG25 is part of the DEFENDER 25 Exercise, which includes planning and coordination phases initiated before the operational phases that are currently in progress. In May, the exercise was preceded by the deployment of personnel and equipment to the training areas, via the national roads, naval and air transport networks. The withdrawal of forces is scheduled to take place in the second decade of June.
DEFENDER 25 is planned by the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) and coordinated by USAREUR-AF (U.S. Army Europe and Africa Command). This year’s edition brings together approximately 10,000 troops from seven allied and partner nations, with activities taking place in the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Romania.
The main training sequences include tactical marches with military equipment, repeated river crossings, and live firing exercises aiming at increasing interoperability among the participating contingents.

Saber Guardian Exercise has been organized biennially since 2013, aiming at increasing the joint response capability in a wide range of missions, both within NATO and with partner states. The event is part of the USAREUR-AF joint training program and contributes to enhancing military cooperation, both bilaterally and within the wider alliance.
