Romania and France – Enhanced defence cooperation on the Eastern Flank

On Tuesday, July 22nd, Minister of National Defence, Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu, had a meeting with the French Director of the General Directorate of Armaments, General Gaël Diaz de Tuesta, who was visiting Bucharest, and with the Ambassador of France in Romania, H.E. Nicolas Warnery.

The talks focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of equipment procurement and capitalizing on opportunities within European defence initiatives, including through the SAFE mechanism. The officials emphasized the importance of the Romanian-French Strategic Partnership for the consolidation of the allied position on the Eastern Flank and France's contribution to the NATO Battle Group Romania deployed to Cincu.

The officials agreed on the need for constant strategic dialogue and enhanced operational and industrial cooperation in the context of security challenges in the Black Sea region and the Western Balkans. They also reiterated their joint commitment to supporting Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
