MISTRAL MANPAD Air Defence Missiles for the Romanian Armed Forces

On Tuesday, November 25th, the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of the Armed Forces and Veterans of the French Republic, through the General Directorates for Armaments, signed the contract for the acquisition of man-portable short-range/very short-range air defence missile systems - MISTRAL MANPAD.

The purchase price amounts to 625,591,000 Euros, excluding VAT, and includes 231 MISTRAL MANPAD systems, 934 MISTRAL missiles, training services, training ammunition, documentation, a simulator and logistic support.

The acquisition takes place within the "European Joint Acquisition of Mistral System" Initiative, coordinated by France, to which Romania is a party, alongside other European states such as Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia and Hungary.

The "Man-portable short-range/very short-range air defence missile systems - MISTRAL MANPAD Program" is included in the Investment Plan for the European Defence Industry, developed in accordance with the "Security Action for Europe - SAFE" Regulation.

The MANPAD acquisition was approved by the Parliament in June 2022 (https://www.cdep.ro/bp/docs/F-930056025/img06302022_0022.pdf).

The three Services of the Romanian Armed Forces, as well as the Special Operations Forces will be the beneficiaries of the program.
