The Chief of Defence Staff received the visit of his Turkish counterpart

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, had a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Turkey, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, who is paying an official visit to Romania, between November 30th and December 1st.

The visit takes place in the context of General Bayraktaroğlu's official participation in the military ceremony organized on the occasion of Romania's National Day, which will take place tomorrow, December 1st, in the Arch de Triumph Square in Bucharest.

The event on Sunday, November 30th, began with a memorial tribute to the Turkish Heroes Cemetery in Bucharest, where General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu and General Gheorghiță Vlad laid wreaths in memory of the Turkish soldiers who fell on Romanian territory. A detachment and representatives of the Turkish community in Romania participated in the activity.

After the ceremony, the two officials had a meeting at the Defence Staff headquarters. The discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation, increasing interoperability between the two countries’ armed forces, and assessing security developments in the Black Sea region.

At the end of the meeting, the two interlocutors agreed on the need to continue bilateral consultations on joint projects related to military cooperation.
