State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, at the Foreign Affairs Council, in Brussels
On Monday, December 1st, State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Sorin-Dan Moldovan, participated in the Foreign Affairs Council Meeting in the EU defence ministers’ format (FAC Defence), in the Kingdom of Belgium.
The agenda of the debates included increasing the European Union's support for Ukraine and the European Union readiness level to support the member states’ efforts in the field of defence (Defence Readiness).
During the first working session attended by NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska, as well as the by the Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal, the Moldovan State Secretary emphasized the role of EU’s financial support as a central pillar for Ukraine, taking into account Kiev’s urgent needs.
From an industrial perspective, the official expressed Romania's openness to cooperate with Ukraine in the field of defence, including within the framework of the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) instrument.
In the context of the discussion on the Defence Readiness initiative, the Romanian official supported the rapid implementation of the Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030, the Military Mobility Package 2025 and the EU Defence Industry Transformation Roadmap. The state secretary expressed Romania's interest in engaging in the efforts of collective capability coalitions developed at the European Union level, but also the need to accelerate efforts to consolidate the capabilities of the member states on the Eastern Flank, especially those targeting air defence and drone and counter-drone systems, including through adequate European financial support.
The European Defence Agency Steering Committee Meeting took place as part of the activity and focused on strengthening its role in the context of the Defence Readiness Agenda.
