On the night of April 16 to 17, the Russian Federation’s forces conducted a new series of drone attacks on the Ukrainian civilian and infrastructure targets, near the border, in the northern area of ​​Chilia Branch.

The National Military Command Center (core) notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations in order to establish measures to alert the population in the north of Tulcea County, and a RO-ALERT message was sent at 00:43.

The air defence systems monitored two air targets that flew in the border area. One of the targets entered our national airspace, and the radar contact was lost 16 km southeast of Chilia Veche, above an uninhabited area.

The air alert ceased at 02.48.

A Ministry of National Defence team is ready to leave this morning on a search mission in the area.

We strongly condemn the Russian Federation’s actions that endanger regional security and seriously violate the norms of international law.

The Ministry of National Defence permanently coordinates with the responsible allied and national structures, monitors the developments in its area of ​​responsibility and is prepared to take the necessary measures to protect the Romanian territory and population.
