Press Release
Regarding the event on Saturday morning, April 25, MoND informs that:
The RAF Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft operated strictly within the Romanian airspace, in accordance with the national and allied rules of engagement. They did not enter the Ukrainian airspace at any point during the mission.
Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft established radar contact with a target located 1.5 km from Reni, over Ukrainian territory. The pilots were authorized to engage the drones.
Because that specific target did not breach the romanian airspace, it could not be fired upon.
The mission remained one of surveillance, deterrence, and readiness to respond if required.
As indicated in the previous press releases, ground-based radar systems tracked multiple aerial targets approaching the area near Reni (Ukraine), where explosions were subsequently reported. After that moment, contact with the drones was lost. Half an hour later, residents of Galați reported, through the emergency service 112, the fall of an object in an area on the outskirts of the town.
Allied aircraft maintained a defensive posture, contributing to enhanced situational awareness and the protection of NATO airspace.
MoND remains committed to transparency, within the limits imposed by operational security considerations, and will provide further updates as appropriate.
