Romania and Hungary strengthen bilateral military cooperation

The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, met on Thursday, August 13, in Bucharest, with his Hungarian counterpart, General Zsolt Sándor, the Chief of the Defence Staff of Hungary, who paid an official visit to Romania.

 

The agenda included the regional security situation, bilateral military cooperation, and both states’ contribution to strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defence posture on the Eastern Flank.

 

The two chiefs of defence examined opportunities for increasing joint training, participating in multinational exercises and enhancing cooperation between the two countries' military structures. Discussions also addressed military mobility and coordination within regional initiatives and NATO structures.

 

Furthermore, the experience gained through the activities of the Romanian-Hungarian Joint Peacekeeping Battalion was highlighted, as was the regional cooperation within the "TISA" Multinational Engineer Battalion. These projects provide a concrete framework for joint training and for developing both armed forces’ ability to act together.

 

"Romania and Hungary are allied, neighboring states, and the security of our region requires dialogue, coordination, and the ability to act together. Cooperation between our armed forces rests on a solid foundation, and our goal is to further develop it through joint training and concrete projects relevant to current security requirements and NATO’s collective defence," General Gheorghiță Vlad stated.

 

General Zsolt Sándor’s official visit to Romania contributes to strengthening the dialogue between the two armed forces and identifying new avenues for cooperation, both bilaterally and within NATO and the European Union.
