On Tuesday, September 8, at 16:47, the MoND's radar surveillance system detected an aerial target 18 km north of the town of Roman.

The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations regarding the need to alert the population in the counties of Iași, Suceava, Neamț, and Botoșani, as well as the northern part of Vaslui County; RO-Alert messages were subsequently issued starting at 16:30.

Two Spanish Air and Space Force F-18 aircraft, currently performing Enhanced Air Policing Service at the Mihail Kogălniceanu 57th Air Base, scrambled at 16:39 to monitor the situation.
