Dr. Vasile Dîncu was born on 25 November 1961 in Năsăud.
Senator Dîncu has served as Minister of National Defence of Romania since November 2021.
He is member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and President of the SDP National Council.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Dîncu held the positions of Minister of Public Information (2001-2003), and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration (2015-2017). Between 2007-2008, Vasile Dîncu was a member of the European Parliament. He has also assumed membership of various political and technical committees, including the Joint Standing Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for Relations with UNESCO, and the Academic Working Group of the Regionalisation Advisory Council within the Romanian Government.
Minister Dîncu has held multiple leadership positions, among which are President of the Agency for Governmental Strategies (Government of Romania) and the over 6-year tenure as President of the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy. His extensive social and political expertise has been doubled by a prestigious academic career - as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Professor at the Universities of Cluj and Bucharest, and author of specialty literature, with a Ph.D. degree in Sociology.
Minister Dîncu speaks French and English.
He is married, with two children.
