Romanian military in Dhi Qar, was appreciated by the Iraqi officials
“I thank to the Romanian troops that, together with the Italian troops, contributed to the security of Dhi Qar province and its hand to the Iraqi forces. I wish to thank to the Romanians for their disposability to continue the protection of this province but it’s the right time for the cooperation to be developed further. In an ensured environment of security we should build “bridges” between the Iraqi people and the Romanian people!” stated the Iraqi PM Nuri al Maliki during the ceremony of receiving the control of operations of security in Dhi Qar province.
Today, September 21, 2006 in Camp Ur, near An Nassiryah, the 3rd Iraqi Brigade commanded by Brigade General Herbia Al Saad received from the Italian forces the control of security in this area.
The Romanian ambassador in Baghdad, Mihai Stuparu, and the representatives of the diplomatic corps acting in Iraq have been in this ceremony. Also, the commanders of the structures of the Multinational Force, the representatives of the local authorities, of the Iraqi armed forces and police from Dhi Qar province participated in this event.
A delegation of the 811th Infantry Battalion “Dragonii Transilvaniei” commanded by the unit commander, Lieutenant Colonel Tudorel Dragonici participated in this ceremony. He stated: “ At the beginning of October the Battalion will receive the orders for the new missions from the British, the MNDSE command, that will take the authority over the Romanian military from the Italian Brigade “Garibaldi”.
