The participation of the Romanian state in missions and operations abroad has been reconfigured
The Ministry of National Defence decided to reconfigure the number of Romanian soldiers participating in certain international missions, in the context of the measures taken to combat the effects of COVID-19 pandemics.
Thus, almost 70 soldiers deployed in Afghanistan, within NATO “Resolute Support”, in Iraq – in coalition-type mission “Inherent Resolve” as well as in Central African Republic - in the EU Training and Counseling Mission will be repatriated. They will return to the theaters of operations if requested by the commands of the respective missions. Similar measures were taken by other NATO, EU or partners states.
Configuration of the MoND detachments deployed to other missions and operations conducted abroad stays the same. The reconfiguration measures taken after consultations with the NATO and EU partners are in agreement with the national legislation in force and do not affect the way the missions are accomplished and the safety of the Romanian soldiers deployed in the theaters of operations.
The Romanian Armed Forces will continue to accomplish the assumed commitments at international level, the situation from the theaters of operations where the Romanian soldiers are deployed being permanently monitored with a view of taking the necessary measures, based on the evolution of the pandemics and security context from the deployment areas as well as the measures taken globally in order to limit contamination with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
